Damian Stambersky became the third head coach of Griffon Baseball in May 2023. He had previously worked as an assistant pitching coach at Missouri Western the year before, where six Griffons were recognized for their outstanding performances in the 2023 season and made the All-MIAA list. He also had a stint at Division I Radford University, with over 20 years of coaching experience. Stambersky was hired after the 2023 season following the retirement of Buzz Verduzco.
During his time as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Central Missouri from 2014-2020, Stambersky worked with many players who went on to sign professional contracts, including Ricky Rivera, Grant Gavin, Lucas Williams, Mason Janvrin, Conor Dryer, Jordan Fowler, Mason Green, Chase Plymell, Evan Reifert, Jonathan Sprinkle, and Brett Matthews. The UCM team made two trips to the NCAA Division II World Series and placed third in 2019 while Stambersky was with the Mules.
Stambersky has had many successes in his coaching career. He recruited and coached Erik Webb, the 2019 Central Region Player of the Year and an All-American outfielder. He also recruited and coached Mason Janvrin, an All-American and 14th-round draft pick for the Baltimore Orioles. Additionally, he coached Jonathan Sprinkle, who was an All-American pitcher. Under his leadership, the pitching staff at UCM had the lowest ERA and highest number of strikeouts in the MIAA conference in 2016, 2018, and 2019 (second in 2015 and 2017). Stambersky has also worked as an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, as a recruiting coordinator at Kansas City Kansas Community College, as a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at UCM, as the head coach at Colorado State-Pueblo, and as a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Radford University.
